EXPERIENCE

June 2007 – April 2009
Head of technology for prominent luxury residential real estate company, reported into the COO. Led and developed a team of seven (networking, help desk & listings) responsible for 270-person firm infrastructure, outsourced applications and vendor management. Developed, tested and implemented an overhaul of the WAN/LAN, improving Internet and inter-office connectivity from T-1 to Fast Ethernet resulting in tremendous improvement in performance and ISP savings of $10,000 p.a. Led initiative to virtualize the server environment and consolidate in Tribeca datacenter, resulting in power savings of $7000 p.a. while streamlining DR/BCP process.

  • Upgraded broker/staff desktops using “cookie-cutter” imaging process; significant decrease in Help Desk tickets related to PC performance.
  • Outsourced virus/spam filtering service; blocked 1.2M spam messages in 2008.
  • Implemented EMC Clariion SAN with 4 virtual “host” servers for 11 instances (Exchange, Fileserver, SMS, WWW, SharePoint, BES) – WWW was clustered.
  • Migrated executive sales reporting system from AS/400 to SQL 2005 and Access front-end; new reporting had drill-down/filtering capability and templates to generate ad-hoc reports.
  • Implemented SharePoint 2007 Intranet, Help Desk and “Library” portals.
  • Replaced old network (20 devices, disparate ISP’s) with Cisco router/firewall/switches and single ISP; end-result is 5 devices and significant savings in support costs and maintenance.

IT Manager for NY & Boston offices of international $15B “fund of funds” reporting to IT Director in London. Responsible for IT infrastructure and support for 140 employees with 1 direct report. Revamped infrastructure by replacing ISP with 100Mbps connection, saving $19K p.a while doing a rebuild of the AD architecture, cleaning up DNS, DHCP and employing GPO’s to control PC use. Completed a cleanup of the local backup process and led project to establish DR/BCP facility with SunGard in Carlstadt, NJ.

  • Consolidated all fileservers onto single device to comply with SOX and parent company (Legg-Mason).
  • Migrated 4 SQL Servers onto single device.
  • Did due diligence for selection of new website design firm, focusing on IT requirements and processes.
  • Established formal Help Desk reporting and metrics.
  • Updated all digital scanners in NY office to comply with SEC archive regulations.

Enable Corp.

May 2001 – April 2006
Director Of Network Services for ASP providing EDI services in a hub and spoke model, reporting to COO. Client roster included Best Buy, Disney, Linens ‘n’ Things, Abbott Labs, Toys R Us and RiteAid. Led the consolidation of office networks upon merger of Bac-Tech Systems and Enable, uniting servers, network devices and domains into a single AD. Built out new high-availability datacenter in NJ facility from scratch while also consolidating Enable server farm into new “Trade Gateway” setup. I was the only IT resource devoted to infrastructure and help desk for the last 4 years of my employ – upon the merger in 2000 staff was eliminated in cost-cutting measures.

  • Responsible for company’s LAN & WAN services (60 servers in DEV/QA/PROD) in a Mixed W2K/NT/UNIX environment.
  • Set up high-availability website with multi-node WWW with Big-IP.
  • Led initiative to consolidate three office locations into one, saving company $1.1M p.a. in rent/office costs.
  • Implemented & managed EDI & AS2 applications VLTrader, Lexicom & Templar T5.
  • Implemented SAP BusinessOne to replace legacy accounting applications

Utility.com/VCOM.COM

April 1999 – February 2001
Network & Data Operations Manager for a dot-com that sold and provisioned gas/electric/telecomm over their website. Utility.com bought VCOM.COM (sold calling cards on their website) in July 2000 and extended management offer to me in Emeryville, reporting into the CIO. Responsible for the datacenters of both companies and led the consolidation of VCOM’s NYC datacenter into Utility’s San Jose location. Also lead a team of 10 in the Networking/Help Desk & Data Operations areas (3 DBA’s, 2-3 Admins, 4 Data Operations). I was able to recover $45,000 of MIA billing after doing an audit of the data ops systems/processes.

  • Responsible for overall implementation and maintenance of the company network (50 servers in dev/qa/prod, 150 seats), a mixed W2K/NT/UNIX environment.
  • Enterprise backup & DR using Veritas Backup Exec, SQL/Exchange/UNIX/OFO/IDR Agents.
  • Ran high-availability website with 3-node WWW servers on Big-IP and 2-node Oracle servers with IBM SAN.
  • Established 24x7 monitoring of all mission-critical servers & applications using SiteScope and automated scripts

Webmaster for company Intranet and Project Manager for a division of The Limited, reporting to the IT Director. Was placed in charge of several project initiatives, including the HW/OS migration of the entire company (300 seats) where I initially employed the “cookie-cutter” process via PC images and testing of several shrink-wrap and homegrown applications for Y2K. During the project I managed 9 staff for half-time and 3 consultants full-time; after the project 2 consultants were kept on and I was given supervisory capacity. HW help desk tickets dropped 80% after the project was completed. Also implemented Backup Exec and SMS for software distribution.
